Pedalpalooza’s First Indigenous and Indigenous Bike Ride on Saturday, August 27, 2022 with 40 Indigenous and Indigenous community members, from young children to the elderly, and a dog named Ocho .
Organizers Alexis Vazquez and Nanette Beyale said they were happy.
“There was a huge turnout for this,” says Beyale. “Imagine what you could do if you made it an annual event. It could get bigger and bigger.”
The seven-mile, party-paced ride began at 3:00 PM from the Hampton Opera Center on the east side of the Willamette River. Riders headed to Colonel Summers Park and crossed the river to breeze along the scenic South Waterfront. The finale was a celebration of fried bread, music and vendors at the Native American Student and Community Center at Portland State University.
