VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) – On Monday, many took to the road to celebrate the hard work done on Labor Day.
Labor Day unofficially marks the end of summer, so the heat is easing, but traffic is heating up as people head home from their vacations.
“There were no major accidents during this trip,” said the sergeant. c Swain of the Georgia Patrol. “Traffic flow seemed to be going fairly well. There were no major jams or serious accidents. The interstate system brings people from all over the state routes that get the locals around the area, so it’s a good combination of both.”
According to AAA, this Labor Day trip weekend was the busiest in three years.
Traveler Rose Monroe-Wilson says, “When it comes to driving, you get to see more and enjoy the drive more. The scenery is beautiful and I wouldn’t trade it for free.” I’m talking “But now we are here in Valdosta. The energy in Valdosta is great, so we stopped here. That’s why we love it here.”
Some travelers say they love driving to their destinations at this time of year and enjoy sightseeing more than anything else.
“That means it’s cheaper, it’s more fun, and you can stop at places like gas stations you’ve never seen before,” Illinois.
Swain said those who traveled to Valdosta, and overall, this Labor Day was a safe and enjoyable holiday.
