A Mexican ice cream shop under construction just west of the downtown plan has unveiled details of its menu.
El Chamoy is located at 523 W. 10th and is jointly owned by Isabel Diaz and Veronica Limon.
According to Limon, customers will find “a wide variety of artisanal ice cream flavors and novelties.” “It’s not just ice cream!”
They plan to make fruit bars and ice cream bars every week.
“We don’t mass produce to ensure freshness,” Limon says, adding that his favorites are mango nada, a mango smoothie with strawberries and cream and mango, chamoy and tagine.
Originally from Mexico, she moved to the United States at age 12 and moved to Dallas for 11 years after graduating from high school in Sioux City. She returned to the Sioux City area 11 years before her and found Mexican food in short supply.
“I noticed the community was growing, and every time they got something, I wanted a place that would remind them of their town back in Mexico.” I wanted other people to try it.”
She opened in South Sioux City in early 2017.
“Thanks to the community, we survived the pandemic and are expanding into new areas,” Limon said. “We have a lot of customers in South Sioux who come from Sioux Falls, but unfortunately it’s not worth the risk of the drive when winter comes. We hope you still enjoy what we have and this new project will be a great start.
Diaz is a Dallas native, 22 years old and looking to grow in business.
“Her parents will help her run this, and we are all very excited to get started soon,” Limon said.
The recently renovated 1st Wok Chinese Restaurant. Closed due to a fire at the end of 2018, it is an empty house.
The hope is to open El Chamoy by early October. During the winter, the business will add other items to keep customers visiting, Limon added.
We hope our customers will enjoy trying different flavors and flavor combinations, including tropical fruits and traditional Mexican flavors.
“We want our customers to know that our ice cream is made with quality products,” she said. “We offer 100% vegan and dairy-free products. When it comes to nuts, we do our best to keep them as allergen-free as possible.”
