From being actively involved in community activities to spending more time with loved ones, Meretto Lampino is making the most of her newfound free time.
However, Meretto Lampino’s public service experience prior to retirement includes 42 years of California service as a public health chemist and environmental scientist. He is a member of the Cerritos City Economic Development Board and has also served as its former chairman and vice chairman. and the Cerritos City “Let Freedom Ring” Commission for her four years. Merett has called the city of Cerritos home since her 1975.
Merett is also former president of the Southeastern Los Angeles Philippine Association (Philsela) and is currently one of the organization’s current advisors.
Mr. Merett, now 77, retired in December 2016 after 42 years as Chapter Chief of the CA Environmental Protection Agency, Office of Toxic Substances Control, Cypress/San Diego Enforcement Branch.
Merett has won several community service, leadership and dance awards. Specifically, she’s a ‘Top 100 Filipino American USA’ and she’s an ‘Amateur American Smooth and Rhythm’ champion of the Golden State Dance Sport Championships.
Today Meret spends most of her time with her family, siblings, friends and her passion for ballroom dancing. As a ballroom dancer, she has achieved success in several dance championships, performed in several showcases, and ballroom dancing in various Filipino organizations and dance studios. She is completely satisfied with her life today.

In his native Philippines, Meret was a public elementary school valedictorian. She also graduated from Plaridel High School (University of Arellano) with honors and her academic performance earned her an admissions scholarship to the University of the Philippines, the best university in the country, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. graduated from
In his twenties, Meret started his career as a lecturer in college chemistry at Feti University, a prestigious university in the Philippines.
After moving to the United States, Merett worked as a research technologist at the Estelle Doheny Eye Foundation Cancer Research Institute, a leading center for the advancement of eye research and care in the United States.
Melette also served as a public health chemist for CA EPA, an organization whose mission is to improve, maintain and protect public health and the environment in one of the largest states in the United States.
Merett was promoted in the organization as an Environmental Scientist, becoming Branch Chief/Environmental Program Manager and managing the Cypress/San Diego Executive Branch of the Office of Toxic Substances Control before becoming Unit Chief/Environmental Supervisory Scientist.

Among her many professional and personal accomplishments are being named one of the Top 100 Outstanding Filipino-Americans in the United States, serving as Chairman of the City of Cerritos Economic Development Commission, Receiving the title of Mrs. RP USA in 2000, and having served as previous president with Philsela.
But one of her proudest achievements was being the biggest feather in a bursting hat and raising her son and daughter (now 49 and 48 respectively) on her own. Despite being a single mother, she worked hard to encourage them to succeed in their chosen field.Her daughter is now married and has two sons and her I have one daughter. Her son lives with her fiancée.
Another important turning point in Merett’s life came in 1985 when he was “born again.” She keeps her peace thanks to her strong faith, belief in the strength of her heart, love, prayer, and faith in God, and other factors that have helped. She endures hardships and obstacles as a full-time working single mother.
Merett’s most valuable lesson from his decades of living in America is the idea that “hard work always pays off.”
With all her hard work and personal and professional success, Merett is an inspiration to all. She is strong, empowered, independent and most importantly a positive influence and a meaningful woman.n
