Celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, the National Indigenous Tennis Carnival (NITC) is a community event featuring cultural activities, music, workshops and two tennis steams (one for participation and one for competition) It’s an event.
230 athletes from all over the country gathered in Darwin.rd NITC in August. Tennis Victoria has partnered with Anglicare Victoria and Buldau Yioohgen to acquire her 11-man youth team to represent Victoria. As part of this partnership, Tennis Victoria will extend his experience beyond the NITC to include cultural sessions with local Lalakia elders and a post-carnival cultural immersion experience in Litchfield National Park. We were able to enable greater connections, connections between groups. To each other and to the elders who lead the experience.
The cultural element of the Darwin International Tennis Center included a welcome by Aunty June, the owner of the local traditional Larrakia property. Participants also learned to make strings, make fire, laughter yoga, and hip-hop dance! On the final day, all participating states and territories met for a cultural exchange programme. This was an opportunity for each team to share their cultural creations with the other team.
The Tennis Victoria team shined on the court as Victorian players Louis Murray and Laura Grigor faced off in the under-14 mixed final. With Lewis Murray winning the final and both still only 12 years old, we look forward to having Laura and Lewis back in the team in the years to come! Represented in the Under 18 Contest Stream and earned points in each category. The Future Stars team gave it their all on the court, having fun, laughing and having a great time with their teammates as well as participants from other states.
After a few hot days and some great times on and off the court, Tennis Victoria finished second.nd With an ash bar tea cup!
