Apple has announced its latest wearable Apple Watch Series 8. It includes a new temperature sensor, which Apple says “further strengthens its commitment to women’s health.” The Series 8 also includes his two new motion sensors that detect if you’ve been in a serious car accident. Available September 16th, the GPS model is priced at $399 and the cellular model at $499.
The company says it can track temperature changes as small as 0.1 degrees Celsius and checks your body temperature every five seconds. They say it can be used to enhance the periodic tracking capabilities of some watches. The company says this data is encrypted in the watch itself. Law vs. WadeApple also says that anyone using cycle tracking will now receive alerts if their periods are irregular. This could be a sign of an ‘underlying health condition’.
The company says the collision detection feature only runs while driving and helps preserve the watch’s 18-hour battery life. Apple is also introducing a low power mode that extends the watch’s battery life to 36 hours. This feature is also coming to older watches from Series 4 onwards, as long as they’re running watchOS 9. Enabling this mode turns off always-on display and automatic workout tracking, but not activity tracking and crash detection. Also on the older watches and the Series 8 is cellular roaming.
Last year’s model, the Series 7, featured a slightly updated design, with a larger screen compared to its predecessor (although rumors suggest that flat-sided radically No new look was introduced). Aside from the redesign, it only included a few new features such as faster charging, better durability and new colors.The Series 8 Aluminum comes in Midnight, Starlight, Silver and Red his Available in 4 colors. Stainless steel models are available in silver, gold and graphite.
The Apple Watch Series 8 has a lot of competition. Fitbit recently revamped its smartwatch lineup with the Sense 2, Inspire 3 and Versa 4, which cover a wide range of price points. Garmin’s latest generation of smartwatches have also garnered plenty of praise from reviewers. It’s always interesting to see how it stacks up with the mainstays on the side.
